Yes Please - Amy Poehler

I started this book on the 3 hour drive up north, to see our family for Christmas. I got most of the way finished by the time we got to our destination. I finished it this morning. I've read a few celebrity books and I'm usually disappointed. Not with this one.

This is not a "funny" book. There are definitely parts of this book that will make you laugh out loud! What I really like about this book is how brutally honest she is. She opens up about things in her life, not to be funny, but to be honest. She doesn't sugar coat anything. There's a lot in this book for everyone.

I read a few people that had issues with her jumping around with her chapters. She would start one story and then start telling another story, within that story. There are some books that I've been completely lost when they try the same technique. I understand that one memory will bring up others, that relate to what they are trying to say. I think that Amy does a great job going in and out of these other stories. There's some that I've read that will have several stories and then by the time you get back to the original story, you are completely lost.

I love Amy Poehler. I really love her character on Parks and Recreation, Leslie Knope. I felt like when I was reading this book, I kept seeing/hearing Leslie Knope. I think she brings a lot of herself to that character and it makes me appreciate her character more. I loved the insights and tidbits that she shared form SNL and Parks and Recreation. I learned things that I never knew. I really liked her writing style and how she would try to sarcastically make valid points. She didn't become too preachy. There are times when she can take a while to get to her point. She really adds a lot of detail to her stories. So sometimes you can get a little lost in the details.

Overall, I really enjoyed this and I would recommend it to others! She did a great job, even though, she really hated writing this book! haha. Like I said, she's brutally honest.

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you'll read next?

Blurb from Goodreads:

In Amy Poehler’s highly anticipated first book, Yes Please, she offers up a big juicy stew of personal stories, funny bits on sex and love and friendship and parenthood and real life advice (some useful, some not so much), like when to be funny and when to be serious. Powered by Amy’s charming and hilarious, biting yet wise voice, Yes Please is a book is full of words to live by.

-I'm almost finished with this and I have really enjoyed it. I've heard so many good things about it from patrons at the library. They were right. It's not really a "funny" book. She talks about a lot of things that are real and personal. Yeah, she makes you LOL at times but that's not what this book is about. She gets brutally honest in this book.

Blurb from Goodreads:

There is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up.

Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs.

The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost.

Friends can betray.
Mothers can disappear.
Visions can mislead.
Certainties can unravel.

--Okay, there's a few things I need to come clean about. First, I've been reading this book for a few months now. I got more than half way and put it aside. For a GOOD reason though. We recently purchased a home and with that comes a lot of work. Packing, moving, unpacking and getting settled. I have also been working extra hours at work the past 4 months. SOO I have had no time to read a book! A reason, I'm also not doing a "recently finished" section. It's been a while. Secondly, I read the first book and could not get a hold of the second book in this series. I was on the waitlist for months and then just gave up. I read about it in a summary and plunged into this book. I don't really feel lost at all though. I really like this book and all the characters so far. My next mission, is to finish this book!!!

Confess by Colleen Hoover

Expected Publication Date: March 10, 2015 by Atria Books

Genre: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Goodreads Blurb:
Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover Owen is keeping major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

-- I am so excited about this! I will read ANYTHING that Colleen Hoover writes. Her books are so powerful and she's one of my favorite authors. She's really one of the few "romance"authors that I'll read.

Monday Musings #5

Musing Mondays hosted by MizB asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

Today, I want to talk about what the next teen series made to movie should be. I know, most of them tank. It's so hard to get good movies from books. Although, they did do a great job with the following: Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Twilight. Mostly, Twilight because of the fan base. The actual movies were just okay. On the other hand, there are so many more that were not good at all. It would take me all day to list those! We were talking about this at work and thought that a good one would be, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Myer.

I LOVE this series. It's so entertaining and I absolutely adore the fairy tale spin. I'm a huge Disney fan. Actually, I love most kid animated films. I really love the fairy tales and I think it's the new trend over the next couple years. There's many new live-action fairy tale movies coming out soon. I can't wait to see! There's already been a couple in the last year, ex: Maleficent, which was great! So, I think this would be perfect timing to cover a whole new spin on the fairy tales.

What do you think would be the a great series for them to make into movies?!

- So excited for the ending!!! I really love this series. I just like Sydney and Adrian's relationship. I really enjoyed the Vampire Academy series when I was in college. I like this series much better.
