Teaser Tuesday #15

TeaserTuesdays-ADailyRhythm3

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My TEASER:

I put a hand on my hip, "If you think you are going to put me in handcuffs, you'd better be prepared to buy me dinner first." Beside me, Ember obeys, nudging me with her elbow.

"No freaking way," I tell her flatly. "No way am I letting these glorified mall cops lay a finger on me."

"Stein," she orders. "Do not bloody the guards. This is the plan, remember?"

-48% on kindle, by Tyler Jolley & Sherry D. Ficklin

- Don't judge the book by the cover! I had been asked to read this series and I wasn't sure that I would like it. It didn't seem like the type of book for me. It looks really steampunk. It really isn't.. It's more about time travel and a bit of steampunk. I'm really enjoying this so far! So glad that I read about it first and decided to read the series.

I want to thank Mary Geis for reaching out to me and introducing me to this series. I also want to thank her and the publisher, Spencer Hill Press for an ebook copy of this book.

When I first looked at this cover, I wasn't sure if I would like this book. It's not usually my type of genre. It seemed a bit steampunk to me. I really have a hard time getting into steampunk for some reason. Maybe I haven't given them a fair chance. Anyways, I'm so happy that I was given the opportunity to read this book because I enjoyed it.

I started this book this morning and I could not put it down. I started an episode of Revenge last night and had 7 minutes to go before I finished it. My husband was ready for bed and so.. I figured I would finish it this morning. Well... I started this book and completely forgot about Revenge! I tried to take a break and watch an episode of one of my shows to catch up. It didn't work at all.

One of the things I love about this book are the amazing characters. They are full of courage and are tough. I really loved Ember. She was a great character, who has a lot of growth. She took care of herself and did what she thought was right, no matter what. Even when she is finding herself and learning about her past, she never forgets who she is. Her love story with Ethan is subtle but powerful. You know right away that he's so in love with her. It's fun to watch her realize how she feels and see how they grow.  Lex was a great character as well and he would do whatever he had to for those he loved. Stein was a great secondary character. She was stubborn and cocky. She is a tough girl and I totally understand why Lex would risk the world for her.

The plot of this book is great. The story moves so quickly and never gets boring. There's a lot of technology lingo but I never felt overwhelmed. I kind of felt like the authors didn't insult my intelligence by explaining every piece to detail. You cannot tell that this book is written by two authors! It's amazing how this book flows so well with the two authors. You don't get lost or confused and it never gets dull or boring. You just have to keep turning the pages. I also loved the two different POV from Lex and Ember. You get to know what's going on with both of these characters even before they know about each other. All the time travel is so interesting and how everything connected and came full circle was impressive. Even more so with two authors! Overall, great book!

I can't wait to read the next two books, which I have thanks to Spencer Hill Press!

Baking Bliss! & Sweet Tooth! - @JenBesel

These came into work (Library) and thought they were so cute. They are for kids and would be so fun to do at home with them. I don't have kids yet.. Although, I'm preparing just in case. Anyways, these both are small books with less than 50 pages and 13 recipes in each book. There a ton of cute and easy ideas in each book that I copied to do someday. I loved the no-bake desserts because there are some fast, easy recipes. I love that they all have lots of color because kids just love that. I also liked the recipes in the baked desserts because they were so pretty! There are a few fun "surprises" in a few of the deserts. I definitely recommend these books to those of you who want something to do with your kids during a snow day or just for fun!

Global Kitchen- David Joachim

I don't know that I would say this is, "The World's Most Delicious Food Made Easy."
There's a lot of pretty pictures to go with the recipes but the food isn't so easy to make. There's a lot of recipes that are extremely time consuming. I only picked out 3 recipes to try. There's a lot of recipes and I picked out less than a hand full.. I love a recipe book that has a lot of pictures to go with their recipes. This book meets that requirement to the fullest. I just don't know that my family would ever eat any of these foods and I don't know that I have the time. I did like all the different cultures that this book touched on. Otherwise, this book just isn't for me.

W.W.W #12 + Waiting on Wednesday #6

This is a weekly meme hosted by http://shouldbereading.wordpress.com

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you'll read next?

  What I'm currently reading:

Blurb from Goodreads:

Her name is Dinah. In the Bible, her life is only hinted at in a brief and violent detour within the more familiar chapters of the Book of Genesis that are about her father, Jacob, and his dozen sons. Told in Dinah's voice, this novel reveals the traditions and turmoils of ancient womanhood--the world of the red tent. It begins with the story of her mothers--Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah--the four wives of Jacob. They love Dinah and give her gifts that sustain her through a hard-working youth, a calling to midwifery, and a new home in a foreign land. Dinah's story reaches out from a remarkable period of early history and creates an intimate connection with the past. Deeply affecting, The Red Tent combines rich storytelling with a valuable achievement in modern fiction: a new view of biblical women's society.

-- One of the reasons I love working at library: The book recommendations! This was recommended to my by my boss (head librarian). I started it last night while my husband was studying and got sucked in. I can't wait to continue!

What Did you Recently Finish?

Blurb from Goodreads:

What I'm Reading Next:

Blurb from Goodreads:

The epic conclusion to Richelle Mead's New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series is finally here...

The Heir by Kiera Cass

Expected Publication Date: May 5th 2015 by Harper Teen

Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Dystopian, Fantasy, Science Fiction

Goodreads Blurb:

Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won Prince Maxon’s heart. Now the time has come for Princess Eadlyn to hold a Selection of her own. Eadlyn doesn’t expect her Selection to be anything like her parents’ fairy-tale love story. But as the competition begins, she may discover that finding her own happily ever after isn’t as impossible as she always thought.

---I loved the original series. I can't wait to see what this has to offer! :)

Blue Ribbon Canning- Linda J. Amendt

I want to thank Netgalley and The Taunton Press, Inc. for providing me with a copy of this book for review.

I remember always hating the summer when we had to do some canning. I have a big family and my dad was obsessed with having a huge garden. So when we canned, it was a lot and long hours. I hated doing it but then again, I was a teen. What teen wants to spend a Saturday canning tomatoes, pickles and so much more. Now, I appreciate it and want to start doing some of my own.

This book is great! It has so many helpful hints about beginning to end. All the equipment needed and how to use them. There's great recipes and so many pictures. I love the basket weave carrots! Can't wait to try that one myself. I will be using a lot of these recipes. I also can't wait to use some of the new techniques that I have learned. Can't wait for summer!

The San Antonio Spurs- Mark Stewart

I want to thank Netgalley and Norwood House Press for an advanced readers copy of this book.

I loved this! It had great facts and bits of information that I didn't even know. I'm a huge fan, I was born in San Antonio. My whole family loves the Spurs and we've been watching for years. Before the "Memorial Day Miracle" and when David Robinson was the star player. There was a lot of information but not in a way that it seemed like an overload of facts. There were some special touches. No joke, it brought tears to my eyes at a couple of the flashbacks. I mean it brought up exactly how we felt when Sean made the 3-pointer at the buzzer. I remember my sister and I holding onto each other and waiting for that ball to go through the hoop. I swear we weren't breathing and then when it went in, we started screaming and jumping up and down with my family. There are some things in this book that just take you back.

For a fan of the Spurs, this is a great book and a must have! There's good information and great pictures in it as well. If you are not a fan, it's still a great book to have. There's statistics and a lot of history. I love all the paragraphs of the players too.
