Driving with the Top Down- Beth Harbinson

I won this from a first reads, goodreads giveaway. Thanks to the publisher and author for providing me with an ARC. Because I have received this for free, it has in no way influenced my option,

I really enjoyed this book. It was sweet, funny, and an easy read. I like how the author had many tough issues for these characters but didn't make it too intense. At the same time, she didn't really make light of the issues, you could really feel the struggle they each had.
Colleen, was the one who glued this book together. Of course, it was her road trip. Anyways, she has always struggled with thinking that she was her husbands second choice because of the pregnancy. He was back with his long time ex girlfriend and she found out she was pregnant. He was actually one of the decent ones, who took responsibility for his actions. So over 15 years, she has always felt like the second choice and that he was only with her out of duty. She embarks on this road trip to inspire herself and find pieces for her shop. Not only that, at last minute she has to take on her troubled niece. Instead of cancelling, she goes ahead and takes Tamara with her, determined to make it work.
Tamara is in a rough spot. She is stuck with a father who doesn't want her and never did. She has rebelled and found herself in a bad crowd. The whole time, knowing that she doesn't want to be where she is. She feels that she has no choice and her father only expects the worst from her. She ends up getting into more trouble right before she has to leave. These consequences are going to ruin her reputation and she is at a loss.
Bitty is at the end of her road. She is literally sitting in a diner, writing her suicide note to a "stranger." She has no one left in her life and has found out that the last 15 years of her marriage have been a lie. After finding out her husband has been cheating on her, not only that but with men, it's time to cut her losses. Although, she feels she has not a single person to turn to and nowhere to go. She is seriously contemplating taking her life when fate intervenes. Her estranged college best friend finds herself at the same diner.
Circumstances have all three on this road trip to not only heal but find each other. I love how the author did the prologue of what these three wish their lives could have been. Reality was so different and that's true for everyone. The plan of how your life will be is always so different then how it actually turns out. These three find each other at a hard time in their lives and help each other out, without even realizing it. I found myself actually laughing out loud at times. Tamara was definitely my favorite. She's your typical misunderstood girl, who has just been at the wrong place, at the wrong time. I definitely will be reading more by this author.
